Passive income with blogging

Many people say it's easy to make money blogging. Curious as I am, I wanted to try this and take you on my blogging journey. I will share with you everything I learned and every issue I encountered, so you can also publish high-ranked blog posts.

I am convinced that creating a good blog and making money from it should be possible (if you have time). The purpose of my blogs create a profitable stream of income that continues to make money even when you are not working on your website.
Remember: if I can do it, you certainly can do it!

What is Blogging

There's no need to explain, I guess. But I do it anyway.
Blogging refers to writing, photography, or other media and publishing it online.
A blog is an abbreviation of 'weblog', an informational website consisting of mostly informal text entries in a kind of diary-style (posts).
All around the world, there are millions of people having a blog about millions of different topics (opinions about political news, travel blogs, garden blogs, pet blogs, blogs about passive income like this one, ...).

Passive income with Blogging

You can make a nice passive income with blogging, but as with many things in life, it doesn't come overnight. It can indeed take quite a bit of upfront work to build a successful blog.
I did some research, and my conclusion is in the table below:
period Est. posts Est. views income
Month 1 15 0 0
Month 2 30 0 0
Month 3 40 10 0
Month 4 45 15 0
Month 5 55 50 0
Month 6 60 120 5$
Month 12 100 7500 200
So, it takes a while to get notified by Google and to gather an audience. It will take you months to get a small return. But as in many things, consistency is the key, you need to persevere. And I know hard work will pay off someday.
Yes, after some effort and patience, blogging can be a very nice passive income stream.
DOn't rely only on search engines like Google to attract visitors. Nowadays, you need to have a presence on all major social media platforms too.
Every platform needs a different approach, so you can see that there's more to blogging than just writing.
Times are changing rapidly and the blogging space is getting more and more competitive. The times of 'easy money' are far behind us, blogging has become a big industry.
I know if I want to make a nice passive income from this, I need to look at it as a business, with a business model.

Is blogging easy to start?

Oh yes, blogging is the most easiest to start with. You only need a basic computer and Notepad, nothing more is needed. And lots of inspiration because you will have to write a lot about the same topic.
Be sure to start blogging about something that interests you because you will have to write lots of posts. Writing your first few posts is easy, but then comes the difficult part: being consistent and relevant because you will have to write about the same subject.
Nowadays, it looks easy to have AI write your blog posts, but not me; I like to stay original, do everything by myself, and not go the easy and lazy way.
People will also notice that your content is written by a machine and not by a human being, so be real and not fake.

What do I have to do?

Be genuine, trustworthy, and try to get an audience interested in what you tell.
You must provide helpful information to your visitors and give them a feeling that you and your blog are the source of information they are looking for. Go into depth in your posts, and don't just write a blog post for the sake of writing one.
Don't produce mass posts and shallow posts. People will see that you are not authentic and your content isn't worth much.
But most of all, be yourself! Give people the feeling that they are reading blogs written by a human being with feelings and emotions; don't write like a robot.
A good guide for writing such engaging killer blog posts can be found here: The art of writing killer blog posts.

If your target is to make a nice passive income out of blogging, you will have to pamper your visitors by giving them a total experience, giving them more than they expect. By giving them all this, they will come back and maybe refer your blog to others too.
You already figured out that if you want to make money from your blog, you need to get traffic. You not only want to gain the trust of your users but also from search engines. One of the ranking factors for Google is E-E-A-T and if you want to know how you can improve the E-E-A-T score of your blog, read a quick guide to boost the EEAT of your blog.

It has become a business and you have to stand out, make yourself visible between the million other blogs.

What not to do

Don't try to monetize too fast.
The best is to build an audience first and get recurring visitors first. You don't get these by overloading your blog site with ads, people will get scared and never come back again.
Don't turn your site into a billboard overwhelming your visitors with referral links or promoting products. People come to your blog because they are interested in your content rather than what you are trying to sell them.
As mentioned above, don't produce too many posts at once, this doesn't look good. Your visitors will notice you are writing just for writing. People come to your site for information or entertainment. Not just for some shallow words and lots of ads.
If you put a lot of pictures on your site, make sure to 'easy load' them because nobody likes long loading times. If visitors have to wait too long for the content to appear on the screen, they leave.

Time and effort

You may have noticed, blogging is not as easy as it looks. It's not just writing some articles and publishing them.
You need to have a plan and be consistent. Before you start making money, you will have to gain some authority and trustworthiness first. Who would buy things from you if you sound entirely ignorant?
You also have to ensure that you offer your visitors good enough content so they stay put after a first look. You need to keep them hooked with what your content gives them.
Writing a single blog post is easy. But it isn't easy to write 50+ articles and stay relevant and informative.

Like me, I try to make a brand around this blog and create a kind of knowledge base where users can find everything they are looking for around all aspects of passive income. And that takes a while. First, I need to create an audience, and only then can the branding start.

It is all easier said than done, many aspiring bloggers stop after a few weeks or months because they run out of inspiration and motivation.
I have been in that situation too and I wrote an article about how I stay motivated in these difficult periods. These tips can be found on 7 Tips to stay motivated as a beginning blogger.

Ways to monetize your blog

Can you still make money blogging? I am absolutely convinced of this. Even though there is a noticeable shift towards video platforms, old-fashioned blogging will always have its place on the internet.
There are many ways of monetizing your blog. The most common is using Google ads. But you also have affiliate marketing, sponsored content, sell courses, ... .
I will only focus on Google Ads. Later on, when my blog (hopefully) grows, I can consider other ways of monetization. But one thing is certain: I will never sell something I don't 100% believe in because that would feel like cheating on my visitors.
I want them to know I can be trusted and don't write this blog only to make money. No, this is a purely informational blog, and it would be nice to make some small money out of it.
And no, I will never sell paid courses or seminars where I promise you heaven but give you peanuts.
Another way to make money from your blog that nobody talks about is by selling it. You can sell your blog 30 to 50 times the amount of monthly revenue (if the monthly income of your blog is 1000$, you can easily sell it for 30.000$).
As an additional feature to this blog, I've created an additional membership page, where visitors can support me (By me a coffee or via Patreon)

My target

As mentioned, I aim to stick to my posting plan and create 100 high-quality posts. And with that, my target is to make 200$ per month at the end of the year.
As said before, I will not get rich from it the first months, but if done correctly, it can be a very nice source of passive income.
